We Regret to Inform You...

It is with great sadness and a careful, hopeful eye to the future that we have to announce the following. The AGRS series will not be held in 2013. Due in part to the overwhelming growth of the gravel road racing community and a general interest in everyone' interest, we met with all of the involved directors and have decided to forgo holding the series for 2013. To our knowledge, all of the races that have been included in prior years will continue to be held (editor's note: The Almanzo 100, Royal 162 & Nasty Nellie 400 will be held on Saturday, May 18th in Spring Valley, MN). With that, we wish nothing but the best of luck to any and all that will head out on the gravels this next year and we'll see you soon.

Warmest Regards,
Chris Skogen & the Almanzo Gravel Road Series Crew

AGRS rankings through the Westside Dirty Benjamin

Another incredible weekend of racing is behind us and I know everyone who attended had a great time at the Westside Dirty Benjamin.  This was my first time at this race and I was not disappointed!  Who knew there was so much great gravel so near the big city?

The series rankings right now are a bit skewed, keep in mind that riders only get to submit their best 5 results for final consideration.  On the men's side this means that it would currently be a race between Brian Koeneman and Ted Loosen after their "worst"(not contested) races were dropped.

Currently on the men's side-

Drew Wilson-  113
Then groups tied at 95 (Royal, WSD and Ragnarok finishers) and at 90 (Almanzo, WSD and Ragnarok)

And for the women-

Sue Schroeder- 120
Mary Gonzalez- 102

Of note-  Linda Sone has only made two races thus far but is two for two winning!

Standings Update: two down, four to go

First off, let us apologize for the delay getting results posted. We've had a record number of finishers so far this year and while that is great for the sport of gravel road racing, unfortunately it means more work on the back end. To make things easier, I'll be tracking the results from here and giving Chris a little break. Without further adieu...the results after two events are as follows:

In the chase for the Lord James cup and Pallas Athena frame-

Drew Wilson- 83 points

Joe Meiser- 78 points

Large groups tied at both 65 (finishers of both the Royal and Ragnarok) and at 60 (Almanzo and Ragnarok finishers).

In the chase for the Lady Elizabeth cup and Three Stars frame-

Molly Cochran- 82 points

Sue Schroeder- 80 points

Double finishers of the Ragnarok and Almanzo 100 tied at 60.

Final standings are calculated based on just 5 finishes so many others are still right there!

Interest in all of these events has increased beyond our wildest dreams.  We will make some changes to the series scoring next year that will better reflect this increased participation and competition.

Please see the sidebar for an explanation for the current point system.

We will be doing our best to provide timely updates and content with regards to the chase.  Expect a few  small changes soon.

2012 Kickoff

Well, the whole thing gets going again this weekend with the 2012 running of the Ragnarök 105. Former champions and newcomers alike will take the start line in Red Wing this Saturday to test their mettle against themselves and each other. Who will take home the coveted AGRS Cup? Will Jim Bell repeat for the Men's? Can Kelly Mac prove herself worthy again? Stay tuned here for updates on the official finishes for all of the AGRS events...

After Five Events

Here is the breakdown for the AGRS leaders after five events.

Lord James:
Jim Bell - 168pts
Hurl Everstone - 151pts
Jason Buffington - 147pts

Lady Elizabeth:
Kelly MacWilliams - 190pts*

Remember in addition to the simple glory that comes with victory, these folks are racing for custom frames built by Josh at Three Stars and Dan at Pallas Athena. Good luck in St. Cloud!

*A miscalculation on our part resulted in a different point total for this contest. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Things are a bit hectic here at the AGRS headquarters. So, while we continue to dig through the couch cushions for our missing abacus beads, we'll work on finally finishing the current standings. In the meantime, we thought you might as well watch this. It's aptly titled.
